John was introduced to the N-SSA through his neighbor, Sunny Riggs. Riggs happened to be a member of the "Washington Blue Rifles", one of the oldest teams in the organization. John visited a compition and enjoyed himself so much that he was very eager to join.

However,...in order to become, and stay a member of the Blue Rifles, you need to qualify by way of marksmanship. Good for the McGregor's that at that time John was not able to qualify to join the Blue Rifles. Riggs then introduced John to Pat Williams, and Tom Wines of the McGregor's.

The McGregor's promptly gave John a home, and he has become one of the most loyal members of the team.
