Paul joined the N-SSA in 1976 with the "1st Maryland Cav.". After a team dispute, Paul chose to leave "1st MD" at the Veteran's shoot in 1979. As Paul tells the story like this, "I was standing in the middle of the creek with everyone, and yelled out that I quit my team and need a new home." At that point Paul was approached by Oli Melekoglu, Tom Hunger, Bud Freeman, and John Anderson of the McGregor's, and mentioned that they would like to take Paul on as a new member of their team.
